Cristopher John - Photographer/Model

How did you get started as a photographer?

I have had a passion for photography ever since high school. I brought a camera everywhere I went and I was always taking photos. However, it wasn't until after college where I started to pursue photography on a grander scale. I purchased my first digital camera, a Nikon D5000 and signed up for an online certification program through the New York Institute of Photography where I really learned how to really use it and hone my craft. While trying a variety of different themes... bridal and baby showers, maternity and newborn imagery, and landscape it wasn't until I started working on model portfolios that I really found my passion. I landed my first book cover in May 2013 and it became my full time career as of March 2018

What was your first book cover?

Afflicted Battlescars II by Sophie Monroe

Do you only do portrait photography or other forms?

I have tried a wide variety of themes and concepts (nature, landscape, baby/bridal showers, maternity, and child photos) but I mainly shoot book cover imagery now.

Do you have a favorite picture? Can you show us?

Why are you taking part in this anthology?

I was so excited when I was asked to be part of this project (the front/back cover photo were donated) because I think it is such a worthwhile cause. Being able to help raise money by doing what I love to do, there's nothing like it.

Why do you think it's important to spread the message of this anthology?

I love that everyone is working together in a positive way to help raise awareness and money for this cause

Is there any one thing you have to have when working?

I'm a planner. I like having a location/themes and concepts organized prior to shooting so that it can go as smoothly as possible.

What influences your work?

Locations play a huge part of my work. I mainly shoot outside, I love natural lighting and using a location to help build a theme/concept that I'm working on.

Who is your favourite author?

I think this would be like asking a parent to chose their favorite child. There are so many amazing and talented authors that I could never pick just one.

Any book that holds a special place in your heart.

They each mean something really special to me. For authors to continue to love my work and to be moved to want to use it to help tell their stories means so much to me.
